Simple
Power on, set your condensing water flow once, then allow the still to find its balance, no constant tweaking required.
Fast
The Pure Distilling reflux condensing column has been configured to run significantly faster than other home distilling columns like the T500 without compromising quality. e.g. Distilling a typical 20L wash takes c.5 hours (T500 Column) vs c.4 hours (Pure Distilling Column) according to their respective manufacturers. That’s an hour of power, water and time saved.
Safe
Set-up correctly, the digital thermometer will alert you when condensing water needs to be turned on and then if your still runs to hot and needs to be turned off.
Temperature-alarmed thermometer
The dSTIL Project team love the alarmed thermometer. It takes two readings 1) Room or ambient temperature 2) Upper column temperature.
Set the thermometer alarm for 10 degrees above ambient temperature and switch on your boiler. When the alarm sounds, it tells you vapourised alcohol is travelling upwards through the column and it’s time to turn your condensing water on to cool the vapour before it exits the column.
You can then set a second alarm to warn you if your still starts to run to hot.
The magic of copper
Copper removes strong smelling sulphides from your spirit improving mouth feel and taste. It requires a simple rinse after distillation and should also be 100% dry before storing.
5 Year Warranty
Problems? No problem! If anything goes wrong in the first 5-years after purchase, Pure Distilling promise to fix or replace it for you.
How can they offer such a long warranty? Simply put – quality. This reflux column and condenser uses only solid copper and brass with no breakable plastic parts. The plastic seals and connectors in the T500 and Copperhead columns are a common cause of failure. Pure Distilling’s clever design eliminates all plastic parts to deliver an elegant yet very robust and effective distilling column.
SPECS
• The column is 500mm high and 50mm in diameter.
• All brass components except the water inlet and outlet fitting are custom-made lead-free brass
• The bottom 350mm is packed with stainless-steel mesh for maximum reflux
• It is designed to run with at least 1600w on a 30l Boiler.
• Fits any boiler with a 60mm hole in the lid.
• liquid-managed reflux design
• The water coil is double wound 6.35mm (helix) copper tube.
• The hose barbs on the coil fit a 12.5mm garden hose.
• The column is uninsulated
Water usage
• The minimum water flow is around 1L per minute, recommend 1.5l per minute to allow for water temp variability.
• Total water usage for a 25L wash will be approx. 200L-300L.
• The exiting water is about 50 degrees C. You could use this to fill your washing machine / bath etc, or you can let it cool and put it on the garden.
• If you have a large 250l+ tank, use a pump to reticulate the water.
